GN global urban competitiveness evaluation index system consists of 8 primary indicators and 32 secondary indicators, including urban economic strength index, resource potential index, cultural capacity index, scientific and technological power index, innovation capacity index, open tension index, management effectiveness index and livelihood guarantee index.

According to the list, the top 10 cities in the 2018 global city growth competitiveness ranking are New York, Tokyo, London, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Singapore, Hong Kong, Chicago, San Francisco and shenzhen. Of the top 10, four cities were occupied by the United States, while two cities, Hong Kong and shenzhen, made the top 10. It is worth noting that four research rankings related to global competitiveness were released in this press conference. The United States, China and Japan are the top three countries in the global competitiveness ranking of 2018.

In the top 50 of the global city competitiveness rankings 2018, nine Chinese cities were ranked as Hong Kong (7th), shenzhen (10th), Shanghai (14th), Beijing (22nd), guangzhou (34th), chongqing (40th), hangzhou (44th), tianjin (48th) and suzhou (50th).
